JAVA ROAD TRIP
Across Oceans, Temples, and Fire
16-28 September 2026

Java is a land of contrast—where coastlines, temples, rice fields, and volcanic landscapes exist within a single continuous journey.
This road trip is designed as a visual progression.
From the raw energy of the southern coast to the cultural depth of Central Java, and finally into the volcanic heart of the east, each phase reveals a different character of the island.
Rather than isolated locations, the experience unfolds as one connected narrative—following light, terrain, and atmosphere across changing landscapes.
It is a journey built on movement, timing, and intention.
From sea level to high-altitude viewpoints, from silence to intensity—
this is Java, from sea to sky.

Day 1 — Into the Western Coast
Arrival in Jakarta.
The journey begins as we leave the density of the city behind, heading west toward Sawarna. The road slowly opens into quieter terrain—fields, small villages, and glimpses of the coastline begin to appear.
By late afternoon, we arrive and settle in.
A transition day—shifting from movement into rhythm.
Overnight in Sawarna.
Day 2 — Edge of the Ocean
The day begins at Karang Bokor.
From the cliffs above, the ocean stretches endlessly, meeting the first light of day. The landscape feels open and exposed—defined by wind, scale, and silence.
By evening, we move to Tanjung Layar.
Here, iconic rock formations rise from the shoreline, creating strong silhouettes against the fading light. As the sun sets, the scene becomes graphic and bold.
A study in contrast—soft morning tones, followed by structured forms at dusk.
Overnight in Sawarna.
Day 3 — Transition to Central Java
We begin early at Karang Tareje.
Waves collide with layered rock formations, creating a dynamic and ever-changing foreground. The energy here is raw—less controlled, more instinctive.
After the session, we begin the transition inland.
Returning to Jakarta, we continue by air to Yogyakarta, then onward to Magelang.
The landscape shifts once again—from ocean to culture, from movement to structure.
Overnight near Borobudur.
Day 4 — Form and History
At first light, Borobudur emerges through layers of atmosphere.
From a distance, the structure reveals its geometry—repetition, symmetry, and depth shaped by time.
Later, we move to Prambanan.
As sunset approaches, the temples stand against the sky—sharp, defined, and monumental. Light and shadow begin to carve through the structures, creating a more dramatic presence.
A day defined by form, scale, and history.
Overnight in Prambanan.

Day 5 — Leaving the Cultural Axis
A quieter sunrise at Prambanan offers a final moment with the temples.
We then begin the long journey east.
Gradually, the density of the central region fades, replaced by open terrain and agricultural landscapes. The rhythm slows, the space widens.
Arrival in Trawas by late afternoon.
Overnight in Trawas.
Itinerary

Day 6 — Entering the Volcanic Zone
Sunrise at Selotapak reveals layered rice fields under soft light.
Subtle textures and natural patterns define the scene—calm, controlled, and balanced.
From here, we move toward Bromo.
By sunset, the environment shifts dramatically. The sea of sand stretches wide, framed by volcanic silhouettes under changing light.
A transition into a more elemental landscape.
Overnight in Bromo.
Day 7 — The Scale of Bromo
Before dawn, we ascend to Penanjakan.
As light slowly reveals the landscape, depth begins to unfold—layers of mountains, mist, and volcanic forms stretching into the distance.
Throughout the day, we explore different perspectives—Widodaren, the sea of sand, and elevated viewpoints.
By sunset and into the night, the mood changes once more.
The same landscape—seen differently through time.
Overnight in Bromo.

Day 8 — Descent and Flow
A final sunrise at Bromo.
We then descend, leaving the highlands behind.
At Madakaripura, the landscape closes in—towering cliffs and falling water create a vertical, enclosed space. Light becomes softer, more diffused.
By afternoon, we continue toward Lumajang.
The journey remains in motion.
Overnight in Lumajang.
Day 9 — The Language of Water
At Tumpak Sewu, scale returns.
Water falls in layered curtains across a wide amphitheater—complex, textured, and powerful.
We continue to Kapas Biru, then end the day at Coban Sriti.
Each location offers a different interpretation of water—movement, structure, and depth.
Overnight in Lumajang.

Day 10 — Between Stillness and Motion
We return to Tumpak Sewu for a different perspective.
Without the pressure of first arrival, the focus shifts—refining composition, observing details.
By afternoon, we move toward the lava flow of Mount Semeru.
Here, the landscape becomes raw again—defined by texture, contrast, and subtle movement within stillness.
Overnight in Lumajang.
Day 11 — Into the East
A final sunrise at the lava flow.
We then begin the long journey toward Ijen.
Along the way, we stop at Djawatan Forest.
Towering trees create a dense and atmospheric environment—almost surreal in its scale and structure.
By evening, we arrive near Ijen.
Overnight near Ijen.
Day 12 — The Final Light
The day begins in darkness.
At Ijen, a rare phenomenon emerges—blue fire moving quietly through the night.
As dawn approaches, the crater reveals its full form.
A turquoise lake, rising steam, and shifting light define the final landscape of the journey.
By afternoon, we travel to Surabaya.
Overnight in Surabaya.
Day 13 — Departure
A slower morning.
After days of movement, the pace settles.
Transfer to the airport.
What remains is not only a series of images, but a progression of landscapes—each one shaping the next.
End of journey.
